at the end of the day

It is the end of the first long day of homeschooling.  We have some attitudes to adjust, namely the one that says, "This is what I'm supposed to be doing in fourth grade, so why aren't we doing it?"  It isn't that we're not going to do "it," but my main goal right now is to fill in the gaps that were a consequence of Alex's public school education, rather than forging ahead with material that he isn't necessarily ready to cover.  At any rate, I have found that this experience is going to be a work in progress and super patience is going to be of utmost importance.  I already figured as much, but now I know it.

  1. Hopefully you'll be able to close the gap quickly. Are you using a curriculum for homeschooling?

  2. Good luck with this endeavor! I admire your decision to do this and think Alex will benefit in the long run. Just remember to practice lots of mindfulness--I find that it helps with my lack of patience. :-) How does one go about doing this? Are there workbooks and lesson plans? Do you complete all the teaching? The task just seems immense.

  3. There are various ways to go about homeschooling, but in our home I will be completing most of the teaching. We are hoping to be approved for partial enrollment in strings classes in the public school system, as well as physical education. In regards to the curriculum, there are lots of choices out there, from complete sets from various publishers, to workbooks one can purchase at Barnes and Noble, to free websites with printables.

I like your suggestion of mindfulness. That's a good one. Thanks!

  4. good luck! I don't think we could go that route -- Taylor is too headstrong for me LOL

  5. I'm sure it's hard for him to shake the feelings that come as side effects of such a change. You are obviously very aware of how he is feeling and together you will both grow into routine with it all. Good luck!!

Tell me about it!
