What a week in the Hull Household!

To start, I flooded our main bathroom last Tuesday by leaving the sink stopped up and the faucet running for TWO hours.  What a mess.  We had to call Servpro to come do an emergency cleanup and we're still working with them, and the insurance company, to get things all squared away.  The silver lining?  When it's all said and done, we'll essentially have a new bathroom.

Then, that same day, all hell broke loose in my son's Cub Scout Den.  Since we weren't happy with the Pack that we had gone to last year anyway, we decided to hop back over to where we had first belonged.  Thankfully, their leaders are welcoming us with open arms and we should resume normal Scouting operations within the next two weeks.  No one messes with my Alex!

So, I've been quite busy handling clean-ups and repairs, as well as social organization drama.  Is your head spinning yet?  Mine is!

We're looking forward to a semi-normal week.  Melody Makers today, golf for Alex tomorrow, and entertaining workmen in between.  Fun, fun, fun.

Now it's your turn.  Give us a brief rundown of recent events, a rant, a rave, or a vent.  It's all up to you, but keep it brief.

We spent the last weekend of summer at my in-laws' house near the VA-NC border.  While I was so happy to be away from home, I was miserable with a cold.  I suppose I have little Alex to thank for that.  I couldn't breathe (still can't), couldn't sleep (only now, thanks to some sudafed), and couldn't get comfortable.  It really is a sad thing to feel ill over a holiday weekend.

On Sunday, the whole family went to the local (ish) mall to do some shopping.  You see, my husband is starting a new job in a few weeks and was actually going to treat himself to some new clothes.  He's typically the unselfish sort who never buys anything for himself, so I was happy that he was getting out and purchasing some new duds.

While we were there, we browsed for little girl clothes.  Interestingly enough, Nana kept pointing out how cute the itty bitty baby clothes were, too.  I think she was dropping hints that we should get hoppin' and have number three.  It seems like she did the same sort of thing before we found out we were expecting Baby Kate.  Uh-oh!  Could this be a sign?  I think not.

In other news, this was the weekend of the Hillsville Flea Market, but we haven't made it up there yet.  I just don't feel like doing anything, you see.  While I would love to go get a piece of frozen, chocolate-dipped cheesecake, I can't taste it, so what's the point?  I wonder how well they freeze...

monday briefs

Katie is nearing two and it isn't too difficult to tell.  Her favorite words are eh-eh and uh-uh.  I have to admit, some days (like today), the temper tantrums drive me crazy.  I am trying to take it in stride and not let it get to me too much, but some days are harder than others.

I think I'm going to be in for it today because we're going to have a stressful time anyway.  Alex is having two baby teeth pulled because they're blocking four permanent teeth from coming in.  The appointment is in less than two hours and I'm a bundle of nerves.

Alex starts school next week.  He'll be in the fourth grade, which I can hardly believe.  But, I'll be happy to have my quiet time back.  When he's in school, I get a decent chunk of time to myself while Katie naps, during which I can catch up on a favorite TV show, mop the floor, or take a nap myself.  When Alex is not in school, I lose that time.  Earlier this summer, I tried instituting a quiet time during her naps, when he would have to go read in his room, but that didn't last long.  I'd rather have him under foot, I suppose, than complaining in his room, quite loudly, and ruining the time for me.

Another benefit to Alex going back to school is that he won't be around to pester Katie so much, either.  She has really taken a disliking to him recently.  I'm not sure why, but it may be because she has found him to be annoying.  Or, maybe she's just nearing two.  I admit, I can't stand to hear her screech at him, so most of the time I just beg Alex to keep the peace.  I worry that I'm raising a tyrant.

Speaking of tyrants, we found out who Alex's teacher will be this year.  I think I'll call her Mrs. S.  Alex says that she's a mean lady, for which I am thankful.  He needs someone to be strict with him.  In past years, his teachers have been total pushovers, so maybe, just maybe, he'll actually learn something this year.

And, with that, I must run.  Little Miss Kate just dumped her bowl of cereal sans milk on the floor in order to have the opportunity to "dee up."  Darn Barney and his clean up song.

Update: Alex did really well at his dental appointment.  I'm just gagging because this is the gateway to orthodontics.

Starting next week, this will be a weekly linky post.  So, get ready to air your dirty duds and link up with me.
